Hockey - Session 2

Yesterday was our second session of hockey with Carley. For our warm up we played switch. In the game switch, we practiced our magnet dribble and our passing. After our warm up we played shark. In this game, we were working on defending our ball while pushing and hitting other people's ball. This game was difficult because we had to focus on many things at the same time. We all competed against each other in the game of juggling. I found this difficult because the ball was heavy and the sticks width is slim. we were allowed to pick up our ball and keep on counting on from our previous score, this made it easier but it took a lot of energy. The winner of this game was Gozan. We also played another version of the juggling game. In this version, we had to sit down when the ball dropped. Te winner of this game was Sebastian. Overall we had a great time and we are all looking forward to next weeks session.

Run Jump Throw - Week 2

This week at run, jump, throw we recapped last week's activities. We were reminded of the proper way to run.

- High knees - You will exaggerate this but when it comes to running in a race it will be less exaggerated .
-  Cheek to cheek - Bend you arms and cheek to cheek means past your face and butt, this keeps your body still.
- Straight Back
- Looking straight - Focused ahead
-  Light Feet - On the balls of your feet
- Run in a straight line

Afterwards, we ran relays with the correct form of running. We learnt the starter positions how we had to stand one metre away then when they say 'on your mark' then walk up to the line, 'set' get into your stance and then the gunfire sounds. We then got into partners and worked on our reaction time wich is how quick we react when the race begins.

Run Jump Throw - Week 1

This week was our first run jump throw lesson with Andy for this year. In this lesson we were focusing on the way we were running and the comparison between the proper style of running and the mistakes that we make. Afterwards, we worked on exaggerating the high knee movement because when we are running we will do it correctly. We jumped over obstacles to work on our high knees. All of us had a great time with Andy and can't wait for next week's session.

Basketball - Kiwisport

For kiwi-sport this term we have basketball. We all really enjoy the activities we do in basketball. Our coaches names we coach mark and coach Milly. one of the things they taught us how to do was pivot. Pivot is when you about to shoot the ball into the hoop or pass, to pivot you can only move one leg to turn but cant move the other unless your not throwing the ball. Another skill we learn was to dribble , when you dribble you need to always be focusing on whats happening infront of you instead of focusing on the ball and to make sure you are dribbling the ball infront of you. To warm up we cupped the ball with our hands so the ball went under and through our legs to the hall and back, this was pretty difficult for me to do. At the end of our game we did relays and we all had a lot of fun at basketball. At the end of our lesson coach mark said if we really were into basketball we would need to practice everyday instead of once a week.

Run Jump Throw

This week at Run jump throw our focus was on how to throw a Shot put and Discus. It was unbelievable at how much we can learn from our  mentor Andy. She taught us some valuable and unforgettable sport skills that will help us at the Athletics competition next term.

While we were learning these skills we also found it easy because they were in chants. Here are one of the chants that we picked up for shot put at run Jump Throw this week : Chin - knee - toe all in a row elbows high low to high watch it fly. The chant that we learnt for discus was : Swing up - clap - bring down back - chin - knee - toe low to high watch it fly fling it fast.

Next time I need to work on holding on to my shot put correctly and putting in more capacity so it can fly further next time

Overall everyone at room 5 had an extreme amount of fun at Run Jump Throw .
