This Prezi is one that I have made about speech marks. This DLO explains in a clear way how to use speech marks. There are many examples and said synonyms. I think that this is one of the most useful DLO's I have made this year. We were given a short amount of time and this motivated me to finsih it quickley.
I am a Year 8 student at Panmure Bridge School in Auckland, NZ. I am in Learning Space 2 and my teachers are Mrs Anderson and Ms Kirkpatrick.

Recount Quiz
Today in writing we recapped our learning about recounts from last year. We took a look at some of the amazing recounts written by the students of the Maniakalani Cluster. We then joined our reasons why as to that was our favorite recount. My favorite recount that I read was Ingrid's from St. Patricks school. The screenshot above is my score on the Bitesize recount test. I achieved a 10/10 score. I am very happy with this as I have not forgotten how to write a recount.

How Kailoa Came To Tonga
How Kailoa Came to Tonga
A long long time ago in the land of Tonga there was nothing but war and stress upon the villagers shoulders. A quiet village where everyone had their own thoughts running through their minds. A single laugh was rare, the sound of harmony unheard. All of this was because of the same reason - Chief Afa was enraged at how his warriors lost every single battle “They must show mercy upon us!” says Chief Afa. He was ashamed, He was looked down at, this was something he hated. One day his daughter Afelicia came up to his father, “ Father Father watch me” She performed a dance which would trigger anyones heart to melt, but Chief Afa had no time to waste.
In a few weeks time one of the most powerful tribe there was would be fighting over land. He had to think of way to dominate tribe Malawi. Cheif Afa’s tribe was anticlimactic compared to Tribe Malawi. Villagers were preparing themselves for a treacherous disaster. Everyday Afelecia would come up to his father and dance and then he finally said
“ STOP! Don’t waste my time” says Chief Afa.
That night he couldn’t sleep, there was too much to think about. The unnerving feeling just kept getting worser. One of them was the fact he shouted at his darling daughter in such a furious way. Tears streamed down his rough skin.
Just then, the lightbulb moment struck. ‘ what if we scare them before they have a chance defeat us’ this went through his mind over and over again, but he knew that it would take a while until he knew how they would fear his tribe. This thought let him sleep
The next day he gathered his warriors in a torn tent where they sat worn out benches, Chief Afa looking for answers but everyone wasn’t as hopeful as Chief Afa, they were either slowly sharpening their swords or tearing up in disbelief that they would survive. During Chief Afa’s gathering, Afelecia was listening to every single word that came out of her father’s mouth. Afelecia took a deep breath and then she walked into the room, standing up proud and tall “listen to me, warriors I can save you all”. Ashamed Chief Afa held down his head. “OUT!” say’s Chief Afa. There was a silent pause as if there was a gunshot heard somewhere.
“ It’s time you listen to me father” Aflecia replies in fury, We shall create a chant and powerful moves to scare off tribe Malawi” When Afelecia said aloud her idea murmur went around the tent with nods. At this moment from then on Afelecia was leading the choreography, receiving papers from villagers with chants written on them. With Cheif Afa’s idea and Afelecia’s suggestion, Cheif Afa was certain that this was a good idea.
A few days later The performance was ready, the ground was shaking, rumbling noises were getting louder, and then it all came to a halt. Tribe Malawi was in front of them. The warriors formed into their organised positions.
Aye, ay! Aye, ay!
Let the whole of Tonga hear me
Let the Animals spread the word that we are out there.
Let the foreigners fear us.
Today, we shall rule Tonga
Aye ay!.
May the strongest show mercy towards us
And crunch any fierce hearts you know
Ocean I drink, fire I dine
To death or victory, my will is fine.
That's how Tonga shall die
We shall give all to the land of Tonga.
Tribe Malawi’s horses backed away as if they understood, this intimidated tribe Malawi. Tribe Malawi’s Chief was holding the flag. They felt so certain God was helping them with those fierce words, that he dropped the flag on the floor.
That night the village was happier than they had ever been before. Cheif Afa had so much power in his hands, this was something he could get used to! He gathered everyone around and announced " I shall call our victory Kailoa!"
That night the village was happier than they had ever been before. Cheif Afa had so much power in his hands, this was something he could get used to! He gathered everyone around and announced " I shall call our victory Kailoa!"
From then on people of Tonga knew that it is not just fighting that is the answer to war, but how strong the power of your mind can be.
As this week was Tongan Lauguage week our teacher decided to make our writing based on Tonga. Everyone in our class chose something to write about, from this we had to make a fictional pourquoi story. I decided to create a pourquoi story based around Kailoa and a fictional version of how it came to Tonga. It is a dance performed in ceremonies and special events.

Giant Panda- Information report
Introduction:
These alluring giant pandas are found in Sichuan China. Their furry black and white coat helps them camouflage from their predators. Their lifespan is 20-30 years old! Their main predators are humans because of the destruction of their habitat. According to animal corner over 10,000 pandas die each year, this leaves not many to live in the wild life.
Appearance:
They are coated in black and white, this provides a bold and effective camouflage. Their fur camouflages with the snowy and rocky surroundings. Their white coat is covered up with unique black markings, around the eyes and ears and back legs, on each row of teeth they have two fang like teeth that help it crush through stems and bamboo( 4cm long). The Giant panda’s paws are broad and have retractile claws that help it grip while climbing. Both female and male pandas weigh around 250 pounds. They are 2 to 3 feet tall ( Standing on all four legs).
Habitat:
The Giant panda’s are surrounded by coniferous forest ( forests that are temperate which means warm summers, cool winters and the right amount of rainfall to sustain a forest) but there's a shortage of food because of the men who cut down bamboo trees, this leaves Giant Panda’s to struggle to find food. China’s population has grown and they are taking over the Giant Pandas land, so this means less pandas. The pandas habitat once spread across central, southern, and eastern China but it has reduced incredibly by the growth of China’s logging and farming.
Threats:
Although there aren’t many , the’re are potential animals that can hunt the Giant Pandas. One day a girl wanted to save a panda’s life because it was being attacked by a snow leopard, instead she was killed. The Pandas came to her funeral. Other predators are Jackals and Yellow throated martens. Panda’s are peaceful and avoid confrontation, but if this means losing their life they will certainly fight back.
Conclusion:
These special pandas are endangered , being poached by humans logging, taking up their land and being killed by predators, that’s the bad news. Although there are a lot of people helping and asking for donations to help the Giant pandas survive and have more of a chance to reproduce.
This information report is about the rare Giant Panda. As part of our writing topic this term, information reports we are practicing adding more statistics and useful information. We first wrote this in a information report framework and then brought it together in the end.

Quick writes with Manu
Her first instinct was to scream. This, as it turned out, had been a very bad idea. “I told you not to scream, now look they’re chasing us” Said Manu. They were in the bushes hiding away from the hungry pack of wolves, frightened at the sight of their feisty eyes.

The wind howled through the window. The girl sat huddling her knees waiting for the storm to be over.”Why did this have the one day that I’m alone in the house”. The wind slammed the windows open, frightened at the scene of lightning tears trembled down the little girl's face.

Jack had seen enough. Shutting his eyes he tried to block out the fire that was destroying the city. Ahead of him he could hear wails of mothers protecting their kids. He was petrified of opening his eyes and looking at what the city had become. Since childhood he remembered running down the street with his kite flying high...

Mind Mup - Writing Prompt
This Mind Mup is based around TOPES a narrative writing structure. It is my plan for the story I'm about to write. The website I used ( Mind Mup ) helped me because it was easy to use. Our writing group teacher Mrs.Donaldson gave us a picture of Daniel Craig running through traffic with a suite on. Everybody in our group had great ideas to share and they were all different.

Story Swap with Shantay
I stood outside wondering if I should take a step into the house. As I took more steps it felt like the house was pulling me closer. All these thoughts were rushing through my mind whether to go in or not . I decide to enter the house every step I took one of the floorboards would creek.
I hear floorboards creek but not from my footsteps I wonder is someone in here , had I just broke into someone's house. I was petrified of what was going to happen next. I had gone so far that I couldn't run back know I was to far away to backdown know. So I hid inside one of the rooms.
I was so intrigued about my surroundings and how old the things were, there was a bed with an ancient hand made doll on top holding a box with a lock.
I am suddenly so interested about what is inside. I start venture for the key in the dark with only a glimpse of light from the windows to see.
Here me and Shantay have done a story swap. A story swap is when you and your partner write one sentence each and carry on until it turns into a story. Me and Shantay had a lot of fun doing the story swap . We both found out what we needed to work on when writing a story. I found out what Shantay needed to work and Shantay worked out what I needed to work on next time we write a story.

My five minute snap shot
Five minutes of archery
The gates opened , all of the students rushed to the arrows. Our instructor was giving us a set of instruction but I just wanted to shoot my first arrow. After the instructor stopped talking the first set of people stood up and took and arrow.
I took a step forward it was as if everyone was staring at me with beady eyes. As I was holding the arrow I immediately realized how sweaty my palms were getting. While he was calling out the set of instructions it was if hours were passing.
Then I heard “ THREE TWO ONE GO ! “ I took a deep breath staring at the target and ZOOM the arrows shot. “ yes “ I said under my breath I had got my arrow on the black. I picked up the next arrow but before I shot it I realized the other students were shouting with encouragement and support. I looked to the other side and saw a camera flashing away. I pulled back , my arms were shaking like jelly “ ZOOM .“ I was up to my last arrow and while I was waiting for the call I realized my sweaty palm , shaking arms and my fear had disappeared.
This is my 5 minute snap shot recount. My snap shot recount is about my time in archery and our goal was to paint a picture in the reader mind.

What is sentence structure
A sentence is a group full of words that have different subjects. There are three types of sentences, these include complex, compound and simple. A sentence needs to include a capital letter in the beginning with a full stop at the end. The purpose of a sentence is to discuss the idea or a subject of the paragraph. This screenshot shows our learning with sentences and their structure we gained lots of knowledge from this site. Please leave some feedback so we can help move our learning to the next level!

Ancestoral poem
I am a proud Afghani girl.
am proud of putting my heart and soul into reading the Quran and I am proud to be under the eye of Allah.
Guided by the hands of my ancestors the have shaped me in to having a true and sweetened heart of a honest Hazarah.
At celebrations I hear the dominant sound of the Dambora and Udu strumming the night away.
I am not sure if I am making the right choices nor am I sure if they are proud with where I am know. In the future I hope that being guided by the same pathway as my ancestors will lead me to success.
